Travel Information
By Plane
There are several possibilities to reach Erfurt via plane. The probably most convenient way from abroad is to fly into Frankfurt/Main and take the fast direct ICE-train to Erfurt
(departing about every hour from the airport; travel time 2.5 hours).
Train tickets can be bought online, at the station and in the

Appr. 260 km (160 miles) from Erfurt.
National airport Erfurt (ERF)
Very
small airport, appr. 14 kilometers (8 miles) from the city centre.
Taxis are available outside the terminal. To reach the inner city
centre, take tram line no. 4 (c. 20 mins.)
Three international airports in Berlin (SXF, TXL, THF)
Appr. 300 km (190 miles) from Erfurt.
International airport Leipzig (LEJ)
Appr. 140 km (90 miles) from Erfurt.
Additionally, you can fly with Ryanair from London (Stansted) or Barcelona (Girona) to the small airport of Altenburg-Nobitz (AOC)
nearby Leipzig. After arrival, you have to use a public bus or a taxi
to reach the next train station in Altenburg. Starting there, you can
travel to Erfurt by train within 2 hours. The distance is 120 km (75
miles).
By Train
Trains only run
on an East-West connection, i.e. Frankfurt/Main to Dresden. Coming from
North or South, you must switch trains (for example in Frankfurt, Fulda
or Jena). Erfurt's central train station (Erfurt Hauptbahnhof) is
located in the city center and connected to the tram and bus system.

By Car
East-West connection: Use the Autobahn A4. Exit "Erfurt-West/Mitte." Follow the signs to the city center.
North-South connection: Use the Autobahn A9. Switch to the Autobahn A4 in Hermsdorf. Then follow the East-West direction above.
